Equal Exchange Coop reached out to me a couple of weeks ago with the possibility of collaborating on a tea giveaway featuring their new product line. I immediately said “Yes!”

If you aren’t familiar with Equal Exchange, they helped launch the Fair Trade coffee industry in the U.S. back in 1991, so they were actually instrumental in shaping the Fair Trade industry as we know it. They’ve become well known for their coffee, chocolate, and tea, and have recently added three new teas to their line: organic ginger, organic rooibos chai, and organic green tea with ginger.

I enjoyed exploring the tea section of their website, and love how their farmer partners are featured. So many teas are grown on plantations where workers have no say and may be poorly treated. With companies like Equal Exchange, though, not only are workers treated fairly and earn good wages- they are partners in the business.

It’s a much more sustainable way of doing business both socially and for the environment. Personally, I think it’s nice to know something as small and commonplace as drinking tea can have such a big impact.

On a lighter note, I am delighted to report that the teas also taste fantastic. 😉 We go through A LOT of tea at our house, and EE is definitely going to be on my list to look for when I’m “in town”- our local stores have started carrying more organic products but I haven’t seen Equal Exchange on the shelves here. I’m pretty sure I have in Atlanta, though, so the next time I’m down that way I will take a look.

There will be some yummy recipes next week featuring these teas, so be sure to check back. In the meantime you can sign up below for a chance to win your very own collection of three Equal Exchange Teas: one box each of organic ginger root, rooibos chai, and organic green tea with ginger!

All the best,
Agatha
