” There are very few tools and hardware that are absolutely 100% essential when it comes to setting up your home apothecary, but there are certainly things that make working with herbs easier and more fun. I managed for years with nothing more than the things on my “bare essentials” list below and a few items on the “nice additions” list, and only recently made it to the “deluxe additions” with learning to use a percolation set-up to make tinctures.

Personally, I favor sturdy, well-made items and reusable, multipurpose tools whenever possible. I found many of my tools at discount home goods stores like Marshall’s and TJ Max, and sometimes look for items at the Salvation Army or Goodwill.  Focus on finding items that you enjoy the look and feel of- it’s easier take care of items we adore, and also adds a calming element of ritual to the process when we work with our favorite tools. . . “
